OK. For better or for worse, international adoption has been all over the news the last couple of days. Most of my earth-dwelling readers will be familiar with a pop artist from Michigan of Italian-American heritage known as
Madonna and her recently-failed attempt to adopt her second Malawian child. *Sigh* This unfortunate episode has put her, Africa, orphans and--by proxy--
US in the news.
If you'd like a little perspective on this, read
this interview from CNN.com with Melissa Fay Greene, mother of 5 adopted children and author of
There Is No Me Without You: One Woman’s Odyssey to Save Her Country’s Children. (Great book, by the way.)
And I agree with everything she said! That is, with the exception of "I admire Madonna..."
