I am here in Sunriver, Oregon, under the swaying pines, listening to birds call and watching the chipmunks scamper.
Today is our third day here. Gotta say that it seems we do the same things every time we come. It's all right: once a year between monotony is no monotony at all.
As you can guess, we:
Grilled burgers
Walked the trails
Went into Bend to grab breakfast
Drove to the top of Pilot Butte
Strolled along the Deschutes River
Shopped the Old Mill District
And right now there's half of you who have been here that know exactly what I'm talking about and the rest of you who just don't know. Sorry for you guys.
Last night had a very short special moment when we surprised Anne-Marie with a birthday muffin with three candles in it (one for each decade of her life). It was the best we could get from the Sunriver Marketplace. Her actual birthday isn't for two weeks, but we didn't want to be here with everyone else on Memorial Day weekend.
Phil leaves tonight to spend tomorrow with his mom. He's going home just as soon as Anne-Marie finishes making the enchiladas.
I think tomorrow will be a whole different experience for us. Once again we're spending an evening of our trip to Central Oregon with our friends Mike and Laura. They're also prospective adoptive parents from Ethiopia (that totally didn't sound right). They're not from Ethiopia, but they are adopting from Ethiopia just like us. Here's the great part about it: they got their referral just 5 weeks ago! So this is the first time we get to really talk since they figured out that little Emme will be coming home in July. Should be a great way to cap off a very enjoyable weekend.
Here's some very web un-friendly pictures. If you click on them they will blow up to like billboard size or something:
